Manage the Designer license

This document explains how to manage a license for Semarchy xDI Designer.

Overview

A newly installed Semarchy xDI Designer runs for a limited time - the grace period - without a license. Within that grace period, you should request an evaluation license from Semarchy or register a valid license to keep the Designer running.

When the grace period is over, the xDI Designer will stop working: the workspaces will no longer be available to you but will be preserved as-is.

Your company Semarchy xDI license allows you to run multiple xDI Designer instances. Each instance must be configured to use that license.

A valid registered license allows you to use xDI Designer. It also grants access to a set of Components. Component include features of Semarchy xDI as well as connectors to database and systems that you can integrate with Semarchy xDI.

You can install any component into your workspace. However, your license will limit the possibility to use these components.

License modes

There are three modes to get a Designer license:

  • Online mode: In this mode, the Designer gets its license from a License Server hosted and managed by Semarchy. This server contains up-to-date information about your license. The Designer connects to this server to synchronize its license key. In this mode, license changes, such as renewals, are automatically handled.

  • Offline mode, using a License Key File provided by Semarchy. This license key file allows you to register a Designer without Internet access. The license key file can only be used on the machine into which the xDI Designer is installed. With this method, license changes, such as renewals, require that you register a new license key file.

  • Local Server mode: In this mode, the Designer gets its license from a Local License Server installed and configured in your local network by your administrator. The Designer connects to this server to synchronize its license key. With this method, license changes, such as renewals, are handled by the administrator of the local license server, and the Designer automatically receives these changes.

The Online is recommended and should be used for most case. The other modes are designed for specific network and security requirements.
